I-FLOW and ABC Insurance sued over alleged negligence in I-FLOW product design

Healthcare

An Orleans Parish, La. husband and wife are suing a medical products manufacturer and its insurance provider over claims of negligence in product design.

Woodrow W. Reed Jr. and Grace Reed filed a complaint Sept. 16 in the Eastern District of Louisiana against I-Flow LLC and ABC Insurance Co., alleging negligence.

On March 6, 2007, the complaint states, Woodrow Reed underwent several right shoulder surgical procedures, after which his surgeon inserted an I-FLOW ON-Q PainBuster pain pump catheter into his shoulder.

Afterward, Woodrow Reed developed severe glenohumeral joint degeneration and acrimonial joint degeneration, which was not reasonably knowable to him until Oct. 22, 2014, the complaint states.

The complaint states the I-FLOW ON-Q PainBuster pain pump was defective in its design and that I-FLOW was negligent in its design and manufacture of an "unreasonably dangerous product."

The plaintiffs seek a judgment against the defendants in a reasonable and just amount, plus court costs.

They are represented by J. Neale deGravelles of deGravelles Palmintier Holthaus & Fruge LLP in Baton Rouge.
