Barriere Construction Co. sued insurer for $240K over silo collapse

Larbreach

GRETNA – A construction company is suing its insurer alleging it wrongfully denied a claim involving a collapsed silo.

Barriere Construction Co. LLC filed suit against Torus National Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 15.

Barriere Construction Co. asserts it had an insurance policy in place provided by Torus National Insurance Company when a silo at their asphalt plant collapsed. The plaintiff claims it filed a claim with the defendant over the property damage but that they have failed to properly adjust and pay their insurance claim. Barriere Construction Co. alleges Torus National Insurance Company denied the claim based on policy provisions that were inappropriately interpreted.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

Damages in the amount of the $240,633 replacement cost of the silo is sought by the plaintiff in addition to attorney’s fees.

Barriere Construction Co. is represented by attorney Thomas E. Loehn of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.

Case no. 751-692.
