A Hammond woman is suing her former employer over claims of unpaid overtime wages.
Shalanda Robertson filed a complaint Sept. 21 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Talha LLC, doing business as Mani's Runway Chevron; Zeeshan Syed; and Usman Syed, alleging unpaid overtime wages in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
While employed by the defendants as a cashier, the complaint states, Robertson was not paid time-and-a-half for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week, and she was not properly compensated for all the work she performed.
The complaint states that the defendants would only record on her check stub an average of 32 hours worked, paying in cash for any hours worked in excess of 32 hours and failing to pay overtime for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week.
Robertson seeks to recover unpaid back wages, liquidated damages, and attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by Charles E. Brumfield Jr. of the Law Office of Charles E. Brumfield Jr. LLC in Hammond.
