Louisiana couple sues medical device manufacturer, alleging defective product

A Louisiana couple is suing a medical device manufacturer, alleging a fault in one of their products led to injury to the the wife.

Bobbye W. Hughes and Billy J. Hughes filed a lawsuit Oct. 12 in U.S. District Court Eastern District of Louisiana against American Medical Systems Inc., and American Medical Systems Holdings Inc., alleging a fault in their pelvic mesh product led to an injury to the wife.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 30, 2012, Bobbye W. Hughes was implanted with a pelvic mesh manufactured by the defendants in order to treat her stress urinary incontinence. However, erosion occurred, causing her physical pain and suffering, and she will possibly have to undergo corrective surgery, the suit says.

The alleges this fault is due to a defect in the defendants’ product.

Bobbye and Billy Hughes seek unspecified damages and litigation costs. They are represented by attorney Ronnie G. Penton of The Penton Law Firm in Bogalusa.
