A Louisiana man is suing over claims he suffered hyperbaric injury on the job.
Jacob Gerlek filed the suit Oct. 27 in U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Louisiana against Epic Diving & Marine Services.
On Oct. 1, 2015, Gerlek was employed as a seaman, commercial diver and member of the crew of a barge operated by the defendant, the complaint states. In connection with his work duties, which included diving from the barge into the Gulf of Mexico, the complainant sustained hyperbaric injury, including central nervous system decompression illness and oxygen toxicity.
These injuries have resulted in the loss of earning capacity, physical pain and mental anguish for the complainant. He seeks a jury trial as well as a judgment against the respondent in an amount the court deems proper.
Attorneys for the complainant are Bobby J. Delise and Alton J. Hall Jr. of Delise & Hall in New Orleans and Covington.
