An Orleans Parish man is suing a group of French Quarter restaurant owners, alleging improper minimum wage payments and not making overtime payments.
Lawrence Richardson filed a lawsuit Nov. 12 in U.S. District Court Eastern District of Louisiana against Famous Bourbon Management Inc., Fiorella's on Decatur Inc., Guy Olano III, doing business as Jazz Cafe, Fiorella's Cafe and Beerfest.
According to the complaint, Richardson worked at each of the defendant's businesses, Jazz Cafe, Fiorella's and Beerfest, all within New Orleans' French Quarter. His responsibilities often changed among the restaurants where he worked as a cook, dishwasher and security guard.
The suit says he wasn't paid proper compensation. Often he wasn't paid the federally mandated $7.25 per hour for every hour worked, nor was he paid overtime wages per the Fair Labor Standards Act, the suit alleges
When the plaintiff complained to his managers in February about the improper payments, the suit says, he was terminated in retaliation, the suit says.
Richardson seeks a declaration the defendant's actions are a violation of the FSLA, an injunction prohibiting the defendant from engaging in future minimum wage pay violations, compensation for the hours he worked for the defendant, liquidated damages, overtime compensation, penalty wages, court costs and attorney fees.
