NEW ORLEANS – A Kuwait firm says Copeland’s Cheesecake Bistro reneged on a deal to open six locations in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and four other countries.
Touch Holding Co. filed a lawsuit Nov. 4 in the Eastern District Court of Louisiana against Copeland’s Cheesecake Bistro, citing breach of contract and enrichment without cause.
According to the complaint, Touch Holding paid Cheesecake Bistro a $100,000 deposit in May 2011, while both parties ironed out a master franchise agreement. In addition to the countries named above, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar allegedly were potential sites for new restaurants. However, terms could not be reached, the suit says, so Touch Holding is demanding return of the entire deposit.
Touch Holding seeks damages of $100,000, plus attorney’s fees and all litigation costs. They are represented by New Orleans attorney Andrew L. Kramer.
