NEW ORLEANS – The owners of a seafood restaurant in Thibodaux is being sued by a man with spina bifida who claims the eatery restricts accessibility to the disabled.

Andrew Schlesinger filed a lawsuit on June 10 against District Investments LLC in the U.S. Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana alleging a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Schelesinger, who is unable to walk, stand or use his legs without assistance, is claiming that he has serious difficulty accessing the goods and utilizing the services at Spahr’s Seafood, which is owned by the defendant. He also claims that there is insufficient clear floor space to the right of the pull side of the door at the entrance of the restaurant.

Schlesinger, who is asking the court to direct the owners of Spahr’s Seafood to make the restaurant accessible and usable for individuals with mobility disabilities, is represented by attorneys Andrew D. Bizer and Garret S. DeReus of the Bizer Law Firm of New Orleans.
