German boat owners accuse New Orleans Terminal of negligence in death of three crew members

NEW ORLEANS – Two German businesses say improperly stored cargo caused an on-board explosion and fire, killing three crew members on its vessel the MSC Flaminia.

Container Schiffahrts-GmbH & Co. and NSB Niederelbe Schiffahrtsgesellschaft MBH & Co. as owner and operator, respectively, of the vessel M.S. MSC Flaminia, filed a lawsuit Aug. 21 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against New Orleans Terminal LLC, alleging negligence under federal maritime law.

The plaintiffs seek damages of $150 million. They are represented by attorneys Delos E. Flint Jr. of Fowler, Rodriguez, Flint, Gray, McCoy & Sullivan LLP in New Orleans.
