NEW ORLEANS – A Louisiana couple says the step stool they purchased from HSN was defective, causing the wife to suffer a wrist injury.

Betty J. Luke and her husband, Philip Luke, filed a lawsuit Jan. 5 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against HSN Inc., doing business as Home Shopping Network, and Ballard Designs Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on the evening of Jan. 13, 2015, Betty Luke was attempting to step onto a step stool purchased from the defendants when it fractured, pitching her to the wooden floor. The fall allegedly caused her to fracture her right wrist. The suit says the defendants are responsible for the stool’s allegedly defective design and manufacturing, yet continued to offer it for sale.

The Lukes seek damages of more than $75,000, plus interest and litigation costs. They are represented by New Orleans attorney Laurence Cohen.
