NEW ORLEANS – The owners of the vessel Aris T are facing a lawsuit against the vessel over a Jan. 31 incident.

Shell Chemical LP filed a lawsuit on Feb. 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District Court of Louisiana against the Aris T, Marmaras Navigation LTD, Aris T. Ene and XYZ crew employer, claiming negligent acts.

Shell claims that on the night of Jan. 31, the Aris T vessel allided itself against Norco facilities, a property owned by Shell. Aris T was allegedly traveling down the Lower Mississippi around the area of mile marker 125 when it went off course and collided with Shell’s facility.

Shell claims that the defendants failed to properly maintain the vessel, that the crew on board failed to navigate and properly maintain lookout for oncoming obstacles, that the crew neglected to take proper action to avoid collision, and that the vessel was underpowered and/or deficient. As a result of defendants’ actions, Shell’s Norco facility allegedly sustained heavy damages and requires extensive repairs in excess of $12 million.

It is suing for an arrest warrant for the Aris T, that the Aris T be condemned and sold off to pay for damages, interests, court costs, attorney fees and any rewards deemed just by the court. It is represented by Brett D. Wise, Thomas P. Diaz, Raymond T. Waid and Devin C. Reid from Liskow & Lewis in New Orleans.
