NEW ORLEANS – A Mississippi seaman is suing his former employer and another company after he was allegedly injured on the job.

Michael Rylee filed a complaint on April 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Transocean Offshore USA Inc. and Tri-State Environmental LLC, citing negligence, unseaworthiness and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 20, 2015, he sustained severe bodily injuries when he fell while he was operating a high pressure lance aboard the Drillship Discoverer Clear Leader and the lance's spray caused open wounds. The plaintiff holds Transocean Offshore USA Inc. and Tri-State Environmental LLC responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide him with safe and sufficient gear and/or proper accessories, failed to supply an adequate crew and required him to perform his duties under unsafe conditions.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants for damages as are reasonable in the premises and for all costs of these proceedings and for any or all general and equitable relief. He is represented by Hugh P. Lambert, Cayce C. Peterson and Jacki L. Smith of The Lambert Firm PLC in New Orleans.
