Man alleges he was injured in accident while driving in funeral procession

GRETNA – An Avoyelles Parish man is seeking damages following an automobile incident in which he was allegedly caused extensive personal injuries.

Herman Dauzat filed a suit against the city of Gretna, Edward Ford and One Beacon America Insurance Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 22.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was operating his vehicle on Feb. 16 traveling eastbound on Westbank Expressway when the incident occurred. The suit states that while Dauzat was driving as part of a funeral procession, Ford collided with the plaintiff’s vehicle, which allegedly resulted in severe injuries to the plaintiff.

The defendant is accused of failure to yield to the funeral procession, failure to maintain control of his vehicle, reckless driving and failing to keep a proper lookout.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. He is represented by Gregory J. Chiartano of New Orleans. The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.
