Couple alleges woman was injured in fall at Gretna business

GRETNA – A Parish of Plaquemines couple is seeking damages following an incident in which the wife was allegedly caused injuries due to a defective slope.

Phyllis and Edward M. Kass Jr. filed a suit against KAI Bros. Inc., doing business as Gretna's Common Grounds Coffeehouse & Cafe LLC, and State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 22.

According to the claim, Phyllis Kass was a patron at Gretna's Common Grounds, located at 335 Huey P. Long Ave., on Oct. 21, 2015, when the incident occurred. The suit states that Kass was caused to fall when she encountered a defective slope. The incident allegedly caused injuries to the plaintiff's face, neck, and other body parts.

The defendant is accused of negligence and failure to maintain a reasonably safe premise.

The plaintiffs are seeking an unspecified amount in damages. They are represented by Brian L. Reboul of Brian Reboul and Associates in Metairie. The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Scott U. Schlegel.
