GRETNA – A Louisiana mother is seeking damages after she alleges a rental car unexpectedly accelerated, causing an accident.
Tanya Leone, individually and on behalf of her minor child Nikko Leone, filed a suit against General Motors and Avis Budget Rental in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 21.
According to the claim, the plaintiff and her son were traveling northbound on Ames Boulevard in Marrero when the incident occurred. The suit states that Leone was operating a 2014 Chevy Cruze, manufactured by General Motors and provided to Leone by Avis Budget Group. While operating the vehicle, the suit states that it unexpectedly accelerated, and that when Leone attempted to brake, the vehicle did not do so. The suit also states that Leone swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle, which caused her to swerve into the median of the road and collide with the base of a traffic signal. As a direct result of the vehicle's malfunction, Leone and her son were caused personal injuries, the suit states.
The defendants are accused of negligence in the manufacturing of a defective vehicle.
The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Vincent R. Amona, Donald L. Rose and Toni R. Amona of Amona Rose LLC in New Orleans. The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Danyelle M. Taylor.
