GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman alleges that a health care provider used a type of bandage that caused an allergic reaction.
Carolyn Bonck filed a suit against Egan Healthcare of Plaquemines Inc., doing business as Egan Home Health and Hospice, and Austin Glahn in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 31.
According to the claim, Bonck received a hip replacement on May 18, 2015, from East Jefferson General Hospital and was given follow-up care by Egan. The suit states that Bonck informed all of her health care providers that she was allergic to steri strips and needed special bandages. The suit states that on June 5, 2015, Glahn was treating the plaintiff and applied Medpore Pro bandages, which are a type of steri strip. The plaintiff purportedly experienced an allergic reaction which required substantial time for recovery.
The defendants are accused of breaching the standard of care through failure to heed the warnings of the plaintiff, improper treatment and other breaches of the standard of care.
The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Richard T. Gallagher of Gallagher Law Firm in Metairie. The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darrensburg.
