Drilling service provider alleges oil well owner owes $300,000

Contract 01

NEW ORLEANS — A Houma drilling service provider is suing an oil well owner, alleging it owes $300,000.

Baywater Drilling LLC filed a lawsuit June 2 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Southwest Energy Partners LLC, alleging breach of contract in failing to comply with the daywork drilling contract agreement.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 20, 2015, Baywater was forced to secure tugs to tow the Caillou from the site of a well back to its dock in Amelia. The plaintiff says it was not able to collect the full sum of $300,000.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant, on Aug. 18, 2015, unilaterally terminated drilling operations at the well at a depth of 10,468 feet, short of the contractually specified depth of 13,050 feet, abandoned the Caillou and left the ship and its crew without any support vessels and failed to pay the early termination compensation due.

Baywater Drilling seeks a trial by jury, judgment for all damages, plus interest, costs, attorney fees and all other relief that justice allows. It is represented by attorneys Peter B. Tompkins and Tarryn E. Walsh of Murphy, Rogers, Sloss, Gambel & Tompkins in New Orleans.
