Lafayette Parish patient blames doctors for eye injuries

LAFAYETTE — A Lafayette Parish woman is suing the United States and two doctors, alleging they botched the plaintiff's eye injury.

Irma Dural filed a lawsuit July 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana Lafayette Division against the United States of America through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Andrew Salem and Dr. Candace Collins, medical malpractice in deviating from the applicable standard of care.

According to the complaint, ton May 28, 2015, Dural suffered injuries to her right eye and cornea during an aborted LASIK surgery performed by Salem and Collins. The suit says she suffered damages in excess of $75,000. 

The plaintiff alleges Salem and Collins failed to properly sedate her during the course of the surgical procedure and negligently aborted the procedure.

Dural seeks a trial by jury, all damages, attorney fees, costs of court and all other relief the court deems just and proper. She is represented by attorneys M. Palmer Lambert and Michael J. Ecuyer of Gainsburgh, Benjamin, David, Meunier & Warshauer LLC in New Orleans.
