Submar Inc. alleges former employee breached employment contract

NEW ORLEANS – A Houma company alleges a former long-time employee residing in California has breached an employment contract.

Submar Inc. filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Robert Edwards alleging breach of contract and other counts.

According to the complaint, the defendant was employed by Submar as regional manager and submitted his resignation in June. The suit states he signed a employment agreement stating he would not compete with the plaintiff while employed or for two years after the end of his employment.

The plaintiff holds Edwards responsible because the defendant allegedly is now engaged in business dealings with Waskey Bridges Inc., one of Submar’s major competitors.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seek seeks preliminary injunction to restrain the defendant from violating the restrictive covenants during the pendency of any arbitration, final injunctive relief any other relief to which it may be entitled. It is represented by J. Geoffery Orsmsby of Smith & Fawer LLC in New Orleans and by David W. Dodge of Glast, Phillips & Murray in Dallas, Texas.
