GRETNA – A woman alleges that a faulty hair dryer caused a fire in her Harvey home.

Ladonna Veira filed a suit against Assurant Specialty Property Insurance Co., American Security Insurance Co. and Sally Beauty Holdings Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 8.

According to the claim, the plaintiff's house was damaged on July 1, 2015, when a Helen of Troy hair dryer was being used in her residence at 21065 Killington Drive, malfunctioned and caught fire. The device was manufactured and/or sold by Sally Beauty, the suit states.

The defendants are accused of negligence through manufacturing and selling a defective product, failing to warn customers of the risk of damages associated with the product and overall negligence in the distribution and manufacture of the product.
