Woman claims mat in Madeleine French Bakery and Cafe caused her to fall

GRETNA – A woman claims that she was caused to slip and fall in a French-themed restaurant.

Sheila Bachemin filed a suit against LDA Management Co. Inc.; La Madeleine Inc., doing business as Madeleine French Bakery and Cafe; and The Phoenix Insurance Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 20.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was a customer at the La Madeleine, located at 3300 Severn Ave. in Metairie, on July 20, 2015, when the incident occurred. The suit states that the plaintiff was caused to slip and fall due to a mat that had been placed improperly on the ground, causing injuries. The suit states that she tried to catch herself by placing a hand on the windowsill, but the windowsill collapsed.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to provide a safe environment for customers, failing to prevent such incidents and overall negligence in relation to the situation.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Eric L. O'Bell in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Danyelle M. Taylor.
