Easton Group Attorneys accused of using misleading debt collection practices

Late 04

NEW ORLEANS – A Gretna consumer claims a Baton Rouge-based debt collector used misleading tactics in an attempt to collect an alleged debt.

Cassandra Brandon filed a complaint on Aug. 10 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Easton Group Attorneys LLC alleging that the debt collector violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 27, she received a letter from the defendant requesting personal information if the plaintiff wished to use a voluntary repayment plan. She alleges the defendant intended to use the information to obtain repayment of the alleged debt though a consent judgment through involuntary methods like wage garnishment.

The plaintiff holds Easton Group Attorneys LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly made false, deceptive and misleading representations and used an unfair and unconscionable debt collection method.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an injunction requiring defendant to cease all collection efforts against her, compensation for statutory damages of $1,000, all costs and attorney's fees and such other relief as the court may deem proper. She is represented by Samuel J. Ford of Varadi, Hair & Checki LLC in New Orleans.
