NEW ORLEANS — A Tennessee man is suing a maritime company, alleging negligence in providing an unsafe work environment that led to injuries for the plaintiff.

Raymond Dardar of Crossville, Tennessee, filed a lawsuit Aug. 12 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against T&C Marine LLC, alleging violation of the General Maritime Law.

According to the complaint, on May 25, Dardar was working aboard the defendant's vessel, M/V Shelby Courtney, when his foot was violently slammed in a heavy water-tight door. The suit says this caused Dardar to sustain injuries and suffer physical disability, grievous physical and mental pain, anguish, loss of bodily function and embarrassment.

The plaintiff alleges T&C Marine failed to provide a safe place to work, allowed the failure of vessel equipment and allowed a dangerous hazard to exist on the vessel.

Dardar seeks a trial by jury, $2 million, all costs and disbursement, wages, maintenance and cure of $100,000, exemplary and compensatory damages, plus attorney fees and all relief available under the law. He is represented by attorneys C. Arlen Braud II, Michelle O. Gallagher and Steven D. Jackson of Braud & Gallagher LLC in Mandeville.
