GRETNA – An estate of a Marrero man is seeking funds paid to his ex-wife over allegations the bank wrongly paid the money to her.

The succession of John H. Johnson Jr. filed a suit against Mary Lillie, JPMorgan Chase Bank, successor by merger to Chase Home Finance LLC, successor by merger to Chase Manhattan Mortgage Corp. in the 24th Judicial District Court.

According to the claim, Lillie and the late John H. Johnson Jr. divorced in July 2014, and Johnson's house was sold by the plaintiff after his death in November 2014. The suit states the defendant banks owned the mortgage and that Lillie removed Johnson from the loan records after his death and that the $4,500 held in the escrow account and other funds were wrongly paid to Lillie instead of the plaintiff.

The defendants are accused of willful conversion and fraud.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by Julien F. Jurgens of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.
