LAFAYETTE — A Louisiana couple is suing an oil platform operator, alleging an unsafe work environment led to the husband sustaining injuries.

Steven and Crystal Johnson filed a lawsuit  in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana Lafayette-Opelousas Division against McMoran Oil and Gas LLC,  violation of all applicable rules, regulations and/or standards.

According to the complaint, on June 10, Steven Johnson was injured on McMoran's fixed platform in the Gulf of Mexico off the Louisiana coast outside the three-mile limit. The suit says Johnson sustained injuries when he tripped over an uneven panel of grating and struck his lower back on piping above the floor of the deck.

The plaintiffs allege McMoran Oil and Gas failed to provide a safe place to work, failed to inspect its platform for any dangerous conditions, failed to repair a tripping hazard and failed to to enforce adequate safety rules.

The Johnsons seek trial by jury, judgment of $3 million, plus legal interest, costs of court and all general and equitable relief. They are represented by attorneys Taylor J. Bassett, Richard T. Haik Jr. and Jeffrey M. Bassett of Morrow, Morrow, Ryan & Bassett in Opelousas.
