BATON ROUGE – A California pay-per-view event distributor alleges a Baton Rouge business illegally broadcasted a boxing match.
J&J Sports Productions Inc. filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana against Tienda Y Taqueria "La Frontera," Erika Paola Sibley and Todd Lee Sibley alleging that they violated the Cable & Television Consumer Protection and Competition Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 2, 2015, it had the exclusive nationwide distribution right to "The Fight of the Century”, Floyd Mayweather Jr. v. Manny Pacquiao Championship Fight Program. The plaintiff holds Tienda Y Taqueria La Frontera, Erika Paola Sibley and Todd Lee Sibley responsible because the defendants allegedly advertised that they were going to broadcast plaintiff’s program and unlawfully intercepted, broadcasted and/or published said program without paying fees to do so.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants for statutory damages in the sum amount of $170,000 for each of them, attorney’s fees, costs of suit and such other and further relief. It is represented by Ronnie J. Berthelot of The Berthelot Law Firm LLC in Baton Rouge.
