Genesis Energy accused of firing man for reporting violations of law

Oilrig 06

NEW ORLEANS — A former offshore oil pipeline worker is suing Genesis Energy LLC, alleging retaliation and wrongful termination.

Richard A. Arceneaux filed a complaint on Sept. 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Genesis Energy LLC, alleging that the offshore pipeline owner violated the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 17, 2015, he was terminated from his employment, causing him to suffer compensatory damages, lost wages and benefits, emotional distress and loss of earning capacity. The plaintiff holds Genesis Energy LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly retaliated against him for reporting violations of state and federal laws and environmental regulations, for refusing to participate in unlawful conduct and for engaging in other protected activities.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant for all damages to be proven at trial. He is represented by Hugh P. Lambert, Cayce C. Peterson and Jacki Smith of The Lambert Firm PLC in New Orleans and James F. DeRosier of DeRosier Law Firm in Lake Charles.
