NEW ORLEANS – A retired police officer who resides in Marrero alleges he was wrongfully arrested by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
Robert Weisler III filed a complaint on Sept. 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office and officer Does alleging that they violated his due process rights under the Fourth and Fifth Amendments.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that Sept. 8, 2015, he was pulled over and arrested for impersonating a police officer and for possessing medications for which he had valid prescriptions. The suit states all charges were dismissed on Feb. 4. The arrest and imprisonment were published online and in the newspaper allegedly caused him to suffer emotional injury, pain and suffering and mental anguish.
The plaintiff holds Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office and Officers Does responsible because the defendants allegedly had no probable cause or reasonable suspicion to arrest, charge or detain him.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks declaratory judgment that the defendants’ actions violated his rights, compensatory damages, costs and attorneys' fees and all further relief that the court may deem just and proper.
