Galley hand blames injuries on W & T Offshore

Oilrig 02

NEW ORLEANS — A galley hand from St. Tammany Parish is suing W & T Offshore Inc., a tension leg platform operator, alleging that insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

Torrey Thomas filed a complaint on Sept. 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against W & T Offshore Inc., alleging that the tension leg platform operator failed to provide a reasonably safe work area free from hazards.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 3, while performing his duties in a safe manner at defendant's Matterhorn Seastar, his boot became caught in a drainage hole, causing him to sustain injuries to his left knee and lumbar spine. He has suffered physical and mental pain, lost wages, fringe benefits and unpaid medical expenses, he alleges. The plaintiff holds W & T Offshore Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to take corrective action and failed to exercise reasonable care.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant for all reasonable sums, together with interest, for all costs of these proceedings and for all general and equitable relief. He is represented by Joseph M. Miller, Benjamin B. Saunders and Carisa German-Oden of Davis, Saunders, Miller & Oden in Mandeville.
