Mediterranean Tile employee alleges he was injured on the job when balcony gave way

NEW ORLEANS – A man alleges he was injured when the balcony he was standing on gave way, causing him to fall.

Juan Funez filed a suit against Privilege Underwriters Reciprocal Exchange, 1512 Seventh Street LLC and James Roddy in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Sept. 29.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was working as an employee of Mediterranean Tile at 1512 7th St. on the second floor when the incident took place on Sept. 30, 2015. The suit states that as the plaintiff was cleaning his tools on the second-floor balcony, he was caused to be injured when the balcony support gave way and the plaintiff fell.

The defendants are accused of negligence through failing to properly maintain the premises.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. He is represented by J. Casey Cowley of Pamela C. McLendon of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.
