NEW ORLEANS – A film producer alleges a BitTorrent user unlawfully distributed the movie "Cell" online.
Cell Film Holdings LLC filed a complaint on Sept. 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Doe-174.50.52.217 alleging copyright infringement.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it has suffered and will continue to suffer damages in the form of lost profits unless and until defendant is restrained by the court from further infringing. The plaintiff holds Doe-174.50.52.217 responsible because the defendant allegedly illegally copied and unlawfully reproduced and distributed plaintiff’s copyrighted motion picture "Cell" by means of the interactive peer-to-peer file transfer technology.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks permanent injunction enjoining defendant from infringing plaintiff’s rights, award for statutory damages, costs and attorney fees and such other relief as the court deems proper.
