Gretna man accuses clerk of court, others of false arrest

GRETNA – A Gretna man alleges he was wrongfully arrested.

Jeffrey R. Pertuit filed a suit against Gretna City Clerk of Court, Norma Cruz, et al. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 18.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was arrested while at his Gretna home on Oct. 15, 2015. The suit states that the plaintiff had been the subject of a 911 call about an alleged domestic disturbance and was arrested on a contempt of court allegation. The suit explains that the plaintiff was taken to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center and was forced to give up his personal items. He also alleges he was also not given notice of his right to an attorney, and was fingerprinted and held with other inmates for hours before his release.

The defendants are accused of battery, false imprisonment, false arrest, negligent arrest and overall negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by M. Elizabeth Tosca of Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen D. Enright Jr.
