A hotel claims that negligence resulted in a small fire

NEW ORLEANS — A hotel is seeking damages, claiming that negligence resulted in a fire.

RLJ III-St. Charles Ave Hotel LLC and Chubb Custom Insurance Company, as subrogee of RLJ III-St Charles Ave Hotel LLC, plaintiffs, filed a suit against Cybertronic Coatings LLC and SimplexGrinnell LP, defendants. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Sept. 20.

According to the claim, the defendants replaced one of the two batteries that was in the fire pump engine at the Hotel Indigo's fire suppression system, which was owned by the plaintiff. The suit states that on Sept. 21, 2015, a fire occurred in the hotel and that the battery cable had had a short in it, resulting in the fire.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to properly check and secure the battery cables in order to prevent a fire and failing to exercise a reasonable degree of care.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by Robert R. Johnston, Lawrence R. Demarcay III and Fowler Rodriguez.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.

The Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case number 16-9443.
