A man claims that he was physically assaulted in a Family Dollar store for holding a purse

NEW ORLEANS – A man claims that he was punched for holding a purse.

Calvin Rankin filed a suit against Clifton Coston, Family Dollar Store #07700 and Sedgwick CMS in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Aug. 29.

According to the claim, the plaintiff walked into the Family Dollar Store on Aug. 27, 2015 when the incident occurred. The suit states that the plaintiff had a purse under his arm and when he was asked to leave by the defendant he was also attacked by the defendant, being punched repeatedly in the face.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to properly train employees or properly supervise them.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by James P. Johnson.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Tiffany G. Chase.

The Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case number 2016-8694.
