Worker claims scaffolding gave way while he was working, caused injuries

LAFAYETTE – A tank operator alleges he was injured when the scaffolding he was working on snapped and caused him to fall.

Joshua Bickham filed a complaint on Oct. 10 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Lafayette–Opelousas Division against Gulf South Services Inc. and Gulf South Scaffolding International Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 17, he was employed by Vacco Marine Inc. and was performing work within the course of his employment at the Conrad Deepwater Shipyard in Ameila when he sustained serious due to the fault of the defendants' employees. The suit states he was washing the inside of a tank barge when the scaffolding he was walking on snapped and caused him to fall.

The plaintiff holds Gulf South Services Inc. and Gulf South Scaffolding International Inc. responsible because the defendants' employees allegedly failed to properly erect, construct, inspect and/or maintain the scaffolding and failed to warn him of the dangerous and defective condition at issue.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in his favor for a reasonable sum to be proven at trial, plus court costs, legal interest, and for all such additional relief as the case may permit.
