Antonio Bell, a former employee of a major logistics company, has filed a lawsuit alleging racial discrimination and retaliation that led to his wrongful termination. The complaint was filed by Antonio Bell in the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana on May 6, 2025, against Federal Express Corporation.
According to the complaint, Antonio Bell, who is of African American descent, was employed as an over-the-road night driver with Federal Express Corporation from July 27, 2023, until his termination on November 1, 2023. Bell claims that he became the sole Black road driver in Shreveport, Louisiana on August 7, 2023. However, by September 19 of the same year, his route was reassigned to a white driver who had requested it and received higher wages than Bell. Despite being compensated with a wage supplement after complaining about this transfer and wage disparity, Bell alleges that he faced continuous harassment and retaliation from the company's agents. This included tampering with his truck and charging him for infractions that occurred while he was out of town.
Bell's suspension without pay came as a result of accusations related to truck damage he allegedly caused but did not report. He asserts that camera footage proved he was not responsible for the damage. Nevertheless, these charges culminated in his firing on November 1, 2023. Following these events, Bell filed a charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on December 12, 2023. The EEOC later informed him via letter dated February 14, 2025, that he could pursue civil action under federal law.
The lawsuit accuses Federal Express Corporation of engaging in unlawful employment practices by denying equal opportunities based on race and retaliating against Bell for raising concerns about discrimination. It further contends that these actions violate Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 USC §2000e), which prohibits employment discrimination based on race and retaliation against employees who complain about such discrimination.
As relief from these alleged violations, Antonio Bell seeks compensatory damages for lost wages and benefits due to what he describes as illegal practices by Federal Express Corporation. He also demands punitive damages to deter future misconduct by the defendant corporation along with interest accrued since his termination date; reasonable attorney fees; all costs associated with prosecuting this claim; mandatory injunctions preventing further discriminatory practices within their organization; back pay compensation covering financial losses incurred because they violated federal laws protecting workers' rights.
Representing Antonio Bell is attorney Dianne Hill (Bar No:14992), whose office is located at Hudson Lane Suite137 Monroe LA71201 phone number(318)325-6398).
