Family alleges man died from exposure to asbestos during employment

NEW ORLEANS – A family is seeking damages for the death of their husband and father allegedly from complications from asbestos exposure.

Christina A. Smith, individually and on behalf of her deceased husband, Louis Smith Sr., Louis Q. Smith, Jo-El Smith and Tina Smith filed a suit against Anco Insulation Inc., Asbestos Corp. LTD, Taylor-Seidenbach Inc., et al. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Oct. 24.

According to the claim, Louis Smith Sr. was exposed to dangerous levels of asbestos while in the course of his work for Celotex Corp. and other entities. The suit states that he was diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma as a result of the exposure, which resulted in his death in 2015.

The defendants are accused of negligence.

The plaintiffs are seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiffs are represented by Richard J. Fernandez and Amber E. Cisney of the Law Office of Richard J. Fernandez in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Ethel S. Julien.
