Michigan parents file malpractice suit against therapist after daughter's death

NEW ORLEANS – A Michigan couple alleges a therapist's malpractice led to their daughter's death.

Jack Stinebaugh and Leslie Stinebaugh filed a suit against Mark Cheramie LCSW in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Sept. 26.

According to the claim, the plaintiffs' daughter was being treated by defendant, a therapist, to address her depressive mood. The suit states the plaintiff's daughter died on Nov. 4, 2013, with the cause of death listed as Bupropion toxicity.

The defendant is accused of medical malpractice and failure to comply with the appropriate standards of care.

The plaintiffs are seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiffs are represented by B. Scott Andrews, Randolph A. Piedrahita and Kirk A. Guidry of Due Guidry Piedrahita Andrews LC in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarrusso.
