NEW ORLEANS – A seaman alleges he was injured on a vessel as a result of an unsafe work environment.

Jeremy Schutt filed a complaint on Oct. 20 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Alliance Marine Services LP, SBM Stones Operations LLC, Shell Offshore Inc. and Danos and Curole Marine Contractors LLC alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Sept. 11, he was employed by Alliance as a Jones Act seaman aboard the vessel FPSO Turritella, owned by SBM Stones and chartered to Shell Offshore, when he sustained permanent disabling injuries. As a result, he alleges he has suffered physical, mental and emotional pain, lost wages and benefits, disability and medical expenses. The plaintiff holds Alliance Marine Services LP, SBM Stones Operations LLC, Shell Offshore Inc. and Danos and Curole Marine Contractors LLC responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide a safe place to work, failed to properly train and supervise him and failed to provide adequate equipment for the job.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants for all damages to which he is entitled to recover, all costs, expert fees, and for all other general and equitable relief and judgment against defendant Alliance for past, present and future adequate maintenance and cure benefits. He is represented by Timothy J. Young, Tammy D. Harris, Megan C. Misko and Daniel J. Poolson Jr. of The Young Law Firm in New Orleans.
