NEW ORLEANS – A seaman alleges a Metairie business failed to provide a safe place to work.

Paul Craig Matte filed a complaint on Oct. 31 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Bo-Mac Contractors LTD alleging that the spud barge owner failed to provide a safe place to work.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 16, 2015, he was a crew member aboard the defendant's spud barge S/B Louisiana Barge and was in the process of mooring by lowering the spuds when the spuds broke and the cable slung-shot into the deck, causing him to sustain debilitating injuries. He alleges he was caused to suffer medical expenses, rehabilitative expenses, loss wages, pain and suffering and disfigurement. The plaintiff holds Bo-Mac Contractors LTD responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to follow necessary safety precautions, failed to carefully inspect the vessel and its deck for deficiencies and failed to properly train and supervise its employees.

The plaintiff seeks compensation for all damages, plus interest, costs for these proceedings and all other equitable relief as the court deems necessary. He is represented by Patrick H. Yancey Law Firm LLC of Patrick H. Yancey in Houma.
