LAKE CHARLES – A former Lake Charles resident now residing in California alleges he worked without being paid at gas stations in Jennings and Lake Charles.
Dilrajpal Singh filed a complaint on Nov. 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Lake Charles Division against Thind Petroleum LLC, New Sartaj LLC and Amrik Singh Thind alleging that they violated the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he usually worked for approximately 112 hour per week without pay from September 2013 until approximately August 2014. The plaintiff holds Thind Petroleum LLC, New Sartaj LLC and Amrik Singh Thind responsible because the defendants allegedly did not pay him any wages whatsoever for his work despite his repeated requests for payment and constantly threatened him with deportation if he would stop working for them.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants in the amount of his unpaid minimum and overtime wages at the applicable rates, liquidated and punitive damages, prejudgment interest and post-judgment interest and all other relief as the court may deem appropriate. He is represented by Daniel B. Davis and Randall E. Estes of Estes Davis Law LLC in Baton Rouge.
