SHREVEPORT – A Shreveport hotel and its owner are accused of unlawfully terminating an employee.
Thomas E. Perez, secretary of labor, United States Department of Labor filed a complaint on Nov. 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Shreveport Division against Merryton Bossier LLC, doing business as Bossier Inn and Suites, and Hui Ping Li alleging that they violated the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that defendants' employee Curley Jones suffered adverse action when defendants terminated her on Dec. 2, 2014, as a result of complaints of not being paid overtime. The plaintiff holds Merryton Bossier LLC and Hui Ping Li responsible because the defendants allegedly retaliated against Jones for engaging in protected activity. They also allegedly failed to properly pay Jones overtime, refused to meet with Jones' father regarding the complaints and instead terminated Jones’ employment because of these complaints.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an order permanently enjoining and restraining defendants from violating the FLSA, award to pay Jones for lost wages and benefits with interest, liquidated damages and all other equitable relief as may be necessary. He is represented by Brian Hurt of U.S. Department of Labor Office of the Solicitor in Dallas, Texas.
