LAFAYETTE — A St, Martin Parish man is suing offshore drilling companies, alleging their negligence resulted in injuries to the plaintiff.
Dalton R. Dupuis Jr. of St. Martinsville, Louisiana, filed a lawsuit Nov. 23 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana Lafayette Division against Stone Energy Corp., Stone Energy Offshore LLC, Diamond Offshore Company, et al, alleging failure to provide a safe place to work.
According to the complaint, on Nov. 26, 2013, in the course of his employment as a casing pusher with Offshore Energy Services, Dupuis suffered serious and disabling injuries, including a broken wrist, when he fell from an elevated work platform to the drill deck below as a result of the rocking motion of the defendants' vessel Ocean Victory in stormy seas.
The suit says Dupuis remains sick and disabled. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to warn him of the unsafe and unsuitable working conditions, failed to provide adequate prevention controls and failed to provide sufficient training and supervision.
Dupuis seeks trial by jury, judgment of $12 million, plus legal interest and all costs of these proceedings. He is represented by attorney Lawrence N. Curtis of Lafayette.
