Mother blames son's death on faulty railing

NEW ORLEANS – A mother is suing condominium management, alleging the defendant's negligence caused her son to fall to his death.

Violet Borras filed a suit Dec.7 against The Garden's Edge Condominium Association Inc. and David M. Catherman in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the claim, the plaintiff's son was residing with Borras on Aug. 9, 2016, at 2338 Magazine St. The suit states the plaintiff's son was leaning against the balcony railing when it broke, causing him to fall to his death.

The defendant is accused of negligently maintaining the premises, failing to warn of the danger and gross negligence in failing to remedy the situation to prevent deaths.

Borras seeks all appropriate damages, attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by attorney Julie Sumrall.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Paula A. Brown.
