St. Bernard Parish residents allege doctors failed to provide proper care for relative

NEW ORLEANS – St. Bernard Parish residents are suing health care providers following the death of a loved one.

Mindi Mapes and Donald Mapes III, individually and on behalf of the deceased patient Donald R. Mapes, filed a suit against Dr. Salvador Javier Suau and Dr. Christopher Bartlett Willoughby in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court.

According to the claim, Donald R. Mapes suffered from worsening health following treatment by the defendants on Sept. 8, 2015. The suit states that the defendants' failure to deliver the proper standard of care resulted in his death on Sept. 11, 2015. The defendants are accused of failing to provide proper care and failing properly diagnose and treat his condition.

The plaintiffs are seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiffs are represented by R. Glenn Cater and Amanda C. Graeber of Carter & Associates LLC, as well as Elizabeth Cumming, of New Orleans. 

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Regina Bartholomew Woods.

The Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case number 2016-11998.
