LAFAYETTE – The owner of a Jennings establishment is accused of wrongfully distributing a sporting match.

Joe Hand Promotions Inc. filed a complaint on Dec. 4 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Lafayette Division against Donald L. Courts Jr., doing business as Booze & Cues, alleging that the establishment owner violated the Communications Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it is the exclusive domestic distributor for the world’s premier mixed martial arts broadcast the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The plaintiff holds Courts Jr., doing business as Booze & Cues, responsible because the defendant allegedly pirated plaintiff’s licensed exhibition of the said program in May and infringed upon its exclusive rights while avoiding payment and without proper authorization license, or permission. As a result of defendant's alleged wrongful actions, plaintiff suffered monetary damages.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for statutory damages of up to $110,000 and an additional $60,000 for willful violation, plus interest, costs and attorneys’ fees and such other relief to which it may be entitled. It is represented by Dorothy L. Tarver of Taggart Morton LLC in New Orleans.
