Insurance firm blames roofing company for fire

NEW ORLEANS – An insurance underwriter is suing contractors, alleging its negligence caused a fire.

Certain Underwriters at Lloyd's London Subscribing to certificate No. BRT557489 filed a suit Dec. 15 against Ospina Brothers General Contractors LLC and Western World Insurance Group in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the claim, 3908 Camp Street LLC, insured by the plaintiff, contracted Ospina Brothers to complete a new roofing contract at 3908-10 Camp Street, New Orleans. The suit states a fire broke out and the new roof was damaged due to the negligence of the defendant.

Ospina Brothers is accused of negligence through failing to take the appropriate measures to ensure the building was safe and failing to take the right precautions.

Lloyd's London seeks insurance payments of $273,572.08, plus all damages, attorney fees, court costs and appropriate relief. It is represented by attorneys Christopher A D'Amour and Gerard Gaudet of Adams and Reese LLP.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.

The Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case number 16-12258.
