Orleans Parish men seek damages for injuries after falling through apartment floor

NEW ORLEANS – A group of individuals is seeking damages for injuries caused in a construction-related incident.

Merlin Dejean, husband of and Sharon Dejean, and Derek Cowart, husband of Glenda Washington, filed a lawsuit Jan. 30 against Classic Construction of New Orleans LLC, HSI Management Inc and ABC Insurance Company in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs are all residents of Orleans Parish. The suit states that Dejean and Cowart were helping a neighbor move when the incident occurred on March 29. The suit states that the plaintiffs were at 2132 Annette St., New Orleans when the floor below the plaintiffs broke and the two fell and sustained injuries.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to ensure that the property was safe for tenants, failing to provide warning or to follow construction guidelines to create safe housing and failing to protect plaintiffs.

The individuals are seeking all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. They are represented by attorney Michael W. Collins of The Law Offices of Craig S. Sossaman in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Melvin Zeno.
