NEW ORLEANS – A Mississippi seaman alleges he was injured while working on a seismic research vessel.

Charles J. Fontenot filed a complaint on Feb. 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Schlumberger Technology Corp. and WesternGeco LLC alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on March 9, 2014, he was employed by defendants as a senior handling specialist to their seismic research vessel, Western Pride. While on route to Nova Scotia, he alleges he sustained severe and debilitating injuries to his back, neck and shoulders while performing routine maintenance on the vessel. The plaintiff holds Schlumberger Technology Corp. and WesternGeco LLC responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide safe and sufficient gear and/or proper equipment and failed to provide adequate crew.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants for damages in a sum amount greater than $2 million, plus costs of these proceedings and for all general and equitable relief. He is represented by Hugh P. Lambert, Cayce C. Peterson, Jacki Smith and Morgan Embleton of The Lambert Firm PLC in New Orleans and James R. Reeves Jr., Matthew Mestayer and Leilani L. Tynes of Reeves & Mestayer PLLC in Biloxi, Mississippi.
