NEW ORLEANS – A consumer is suing an insurance company and bed manufacturer, alleging he was injured when using a Murphy bed.

Bryce French filed a lawsuit Feb. 8 against Liberty Mutual insurance Company and Breda Inc. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging product liability.

According to the complaint, French had purchased a Murphy bed, made by Breda. The suit states French was using the bed Feb. 16, 2016, when one of the bed's support frames came loose and smashed the plaintiff's hand between two parts of the bed.

Breda and Liberty Mutual are accused of negligence and liability through failing to design a bed that was safe for use and failing to warn of the danger.

French seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. He is represented by attorneys Alexandre E. Bonin, R. Christian Bonin and J. Marc Bonin of Bonin Law in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge Clare Jupiter.
